Port of Algeciras
The Port of Algeciras is one of the most important in Spain due to its geostrategic location. It lies at the intersection of the world’s main maritime routes with a constant movement of goods and passengers.
About the Algeciras Port
It is the leading port of the Iberian Peninsula in terms of passenger and vehicle traffic and experiences a significant increase, year after year. The busiest route is Algeciras - Tanger-Med, with an average annual increase of 20%.
Each year, these figures improve due to the excellent natural draught conditions of the Bay of Algeciras as well as its location at the intersection of the intercontinental routes that join Northern Europe, Asia and the Americas, the port’s links to the entire Peninsula and neighbouring countries, and due to the continuous improvement of its infrastructure, which is constantly being adapted to the needs of the maritime sector.
How to get to the Algeciras Ferry Terminal?
The Port of Algeciras is very well connected to all the main cities of the Peninsula via its network of motorways.
By car
When you are about to get into the city of Algeciras from Malaga or Jerez, you’ll cross a river and from there on, you’ll see directions to the port. Keep left and drive through the tunnel. Continue on the left, and you’ll arrive right at the entry to the port. When you pass the security checkpoint at the entrance, continue over the bridge and you’ll see the terminal on your left. Everything is well signposted, whether you’re travelling to Ceuta or Tangier.
By train
With Renfe (Spain’s national train company), you can travel to and from Algeciras from any town or city in Spain. The train station is right in the city centre, a few minutes’ walk from the bus station and the port. It’s about 800 meters from the port, although there’s also a taxi rank just by the entrance.
By plane
The airports closest to Algeciras are Gibraltar North Front (15 km), Jerez de la Frontera (100 km) and Malaga (120 km).
Car Park
At the Port of Algeciras, there are two public car parks. One is across from the dock and the other to the right of the ferry terminal. The first one is an indoor car park and the first hour is free, and the second one is an outdoor car park. These car parks have 24 hour surveillance and we recommend you leave your car here as they’re right at the port.
There are other options outside the port such as Aparcamiento del Carmen (on C/ de Patriarca Doctor Perez Rodríguez 42), which is around a 15 minute walk from the port’s departures and arrivals area and Parking Verboom (on Av. Virgen del Carmen, w/o number), located 800 meters from the port in a 3 story underground parking area, with 24 hour surveillance.
