Port of Tangier Ville

The Port of Tangier Ville is located at the entry of the Strait of Gibraltar in the most western part of the city of Tangier. It is located in the city of Tangier itself, on a bay between Cap Spartel and Cap Malabata.

How to get to the Tangier Ville Ferry Terminal?

With the opening of the new port of Tanger-Med, located 40 km to the east of Tangier, almost all the traffic at the Port of Tangier was progressively transferred between the end of 2008 and the end of 2010, thus freeing this port of all cargo traffic and letting it focus purely on passenger boats and pleasure craft.

In fact, there is currently a major redevelopment effort to cater to cruise ships and yachts. With these changes, the Port of Tangier will enable the city to become a leading tourist destination.

FRS has a ferry from Tangier to Tarifa, with passenger traffic greater than 1.2 million. The port has three stations for docking fast vessels that serve this route and a ferry terminal scheduled to be modernised and renovated.

How to get there:

By car

You can drive from Rabat to Tangier via the N-6, the distance between these two cities being around 238 kilometres. Casablanca is 330 km away via the motorways A5, A6 or A1.

By bus

Tangier has two long-haul bus stations. The companies are:

-C.T.M.: Place d' Espagne. Gare routière-Tel. 00212 (0)39 931 172

-TRAMESA.: 29 Av. Youssef Ben Tacheffine-Tel. 00212 (0)39 943 348

Departures are not regular and it takes longer than other modes of transport.

By train

From major cities such as Marrakesh, Casablanca, Nador, Fez and Rabat, there are high-speed trains to Tangier with the Moroccan company ONCF. Sections not covered, such as small tourist cities like Agadir or Essaouira, have connections via the Supratours bus service that connect areas not served by trains. It is a very fast and convenient way to travel.

By taxi

Travelling by taxi in Morocco is fairly cheap, although it is important to agree upon the fare with the driver before setting off. There are “grand taxis”, old cars where the quality-price ratio is quite good, and “petit taxis” that only accept up to 3 passengers, and are generally not allowed to travel between cities.

It is a safe, convenient and cheap way to travel and very recommendable if you don’t want to be tied down to timetables.

Car parks

At the port itself, there is a car park that is an esplanade where you can leave your car. A better, indoor car park is currently on the drawing board though.

There are quite a few car parks at the south end of Mohamed V Avenue, which are suitable for long-stay parking. Outside the medina, in the Grand Souk, there is a car park with surveillance.

Another option is to leave your car at Tangier Airport where there is a car park.
