Information about your trip

You can get your boarding passes from our website using online check-in, or through our App FRS/DFDS Ferry.​​​​​​ Confirm passenger and vehicle details, and take your boarding passes with you in PDF format. You’ll be able to board directly without needing to queue unnecessarily.

We recommend that you arrive at the port at least 90 minutes before the departure of your ship.

Depending on the port of origin, shipments have different closing times:

• Tanger Med - Algeciras: 60 minutes before.
• Tarifa: 15 minutes before.
• Algeciras - Tanger Med: 15 minutes before.
• Tanger Ville - Tarifa : 30 minutes before. 
• Algeciras - Ceuta: 10 minutes before.
• Ceuta - Algeciras: 10 minutes before.

Once you have collected your boarding passes you must go to the police control in order to board the ship.

When you travel from Spain to Morocco, on the Tarifa - Tangier Ville and Algeciras - Tangier Med lines, you will need to go to the Spanish Passport Control point first. Once on board, you will have to go to the Moroccan Police Control point, where you will need to show your passport to be stamped, along with a filled-in white form that you will have received when buying your tickets.

When you go for a day trip in Tangier, you can travel with just your ID card if you are a EU citizen, but you need to contact FRS Booking Department in advance (+ 34 956 68 18 30).

If you travel with a vehicle, you must go through the car control in our departure ports to get to the boarding area. Then you will have to go to the relevant police control. Once on board, passengers must comply with the aforementioned procedure when travelling to or from Morocco. For the vehicle, you must submit the filled-in D16ter form at the customs control. 

For return ticks, if the outbound ticket has already boarded (already used), the number on the return ticket cannot be modified, the same ticket number must be used to board the return trip.

At our sales points, you’ll find forms for passenger control. The white form (for entry to Morocco) should be correctly filled in and presented to the authorities, who will be found on the ship. The form should be delivered during the crossing.

When presenting the passenger control form, you must also show your passport.

You need your ID card when travelling on our lines. In addition to this, if you happen to be a resident or you can benefit from any resident, large family, military, Guardia Civil or any other discounts, you must show the documents that prove it in order to get your discount.

When travelling to Morocco, you must have a passport. For passengers from certain countries, a visa might also be needed, which should be obtained at the country’s consulate.

In the case of excursions:

Tangier Essential 1 day:

• Passport for citizens with and without nationality in European Union countries.
• Visa for citizens of countries that do not appear on this list.

Tangier Cultural 1 day

You will need to bring your ID card if you are a citizen of a European Union country, passport for those who do not have this nationality and also a visa for those who do not appear on the above list.

If you travel to Morocco, the official currency is the Dirham. You can exchange currency both at the Tangier Port and in the city.

If you bring meat or dairy products from outside the EU, you may be importing animal diseases.

You must present the products at official control points. Otherwise, you may be fined or face criminal prosecution.

The introduction of products of animal origin into the EU is subject to strict procedures and veterinary checks.

If you travel to Spain, you need to show your circulation permit and insurance.

If you travel to or from Morocco, you need to present the vehicle's technical data sheet, registration certificate and valid insurance.

In case the car is not yours, you also need to present an authorization from the owner (stating the ID of both and a declaration of authorization) and a photocopy of the ID of the owner on both sides.

Pregnant women may travel but they do so at their own risk and in accordance with the General Conditions of Contract. They will also need to provide a Medical Certificate when travelling while 3O weeks and over proving they are in perfect condition to travel.

If a pregnant woman ignores recommendations from her doctor about the risks of travelling, or if there are no such recommendations, she will not be able to travel unless she signs a document to expressly accept sole responsibility for any issues that may occur.

However, if any damages are caused as a result of our services, the pregnant passenger will have the right to claim compensation for said damages.

If you travel in Spain, your child must have an ID card.

If you travel to Morocco: Your child must have a passport. Only in the case of the guided day trip to Tangier may your child travel with just an ID card, but this will have to be cleared with FRS first.

For those minors who travel without their parents, the Spanish Police will issue a document where the parents authorise said minor to travel without them. This document must be requested at the police station before the departure date.

Pets at FRS
The conditions stated here must be complied with on all our ships.
Pets will be transported in the space provided for this purpose on the ship, always in a pet carrier (this needs to be supplied by the passenger), and always outside the passenger cabin. The owner is responsible for their pet's food/ water and general welfare.
Registered guide dogs are always authorised to travel in the passenger area. On board, they must have a muzzle, short leash, and collar, and remain with their owner.
Passengers must ensure that they are fully informed of the requirements that need to be met in advance of travel, and the essential documentation that must be carried. You can check these requirements here. We recommend consulting Moroccan and Spanish regulations on the admission of pets.

Passengers have the right to take their luggage on board free of charge, this being taken to mean clothing and personal belongings necessary for the use and comfort of passengers during their trip. No liability will be accepted for any passenger belongings which have not been entrusted to the Captain for their safekeeping. Goods resulting from illegal trade and/or dangerous items are not permitted on board.

Minors travelling without being accompanied by an adult MAY NOT BOARD.

Minors under 14 years of age may only embark accompanied by an adult or person over 18 years of age. That person can be any of their legal representatives (father, mother or legal guardian/s) or a third person other than the above.

In case of being that third person, a signed declaration (by one of the legal representatives of the minor) of permission to travel outside the national territory, which can be obtained in the Operational Units of the General Directorate of the National Police, the Civil Guard, in the courts, in the Notary's office or in the Customs, will also be required.

If you are a person with reduced mobility, you must inform us so that we can assist you when boarding, on board and during disembarkation. The information you must provide is:

- Passenger's name and surname.

- Passport number.

- Reservation number.

- Arrival or departure time.

- Accreditation of person with reduced mobility.

Your rights as a passenger include:

• Right to claim within the legally established time limit.
• Right to be informed as soon as possible in case of cancellation or delay in departure.
• Right to assistance when reasonably possible (more than 90 minutes).
• Right to choose between alternative transport or reimbursement in case of cancellation or delayed departure (more than 90 minutes).
• Right to compensation in certain circumstances in case of delay in arrival.
• Right to travel under the same conditions as other citizens if you have reduced capacity and/or mobility.
• You will not be entitled to assistance or compensation for delay in arrival, in case you have an open ticket without specified time, or when weather conditions and/or extraordinary circumstances occur which hinder the execution of the service and which could not have been avoided. These include decisions taken by traffic agencies or port authorities or decisions taken by the competent authorities regarding public order and safety, as well as the coverage of urgent transport needs.
